Yakima sweeps All-Star games

Davis’ Esmeralda Galindo and Zillah’s Clay Delp led Yakima to a sweep over the Tri-Cities in the 2022 All-Star Classic games at Sunnyside High School on April 23.

Galindo, the games most valuable player, finished with 24 points and tied for the second-highest scoring total in the 26-year history of the series. Tri-Cities led 52-46 entering the fourth quarter, but could not hold off a strong Yakima run, which outscored the Tri-Cities All Stars 22-10 in the final frame.

A’niyah Heavens (Chiawana) recorded 13 points and four steals in her final high school game, while Iliana Moran (Hanford) added 11 points and three rebounds and Taija Mackey (Pasco) tallied 10 points, four rebounds and two blocks.

Tri-Cities leads the girls series 20-10.

On the boys side, Delp’s 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists earned him MVP honors.

Tri-Cities nearly pulled off the come-from-behind win, pouring in 36 points in the fourth quarter, however it wasn’t enough to overcome a hot shooting Yakima team, which was 34% from long range.

Tri-Cities was led by Josh Woodard (Richland) with 22 points while Twazae Gladney (Richland) pulled down 10 rebounds (eight defensive).

Yakima leads the boys series 23-7.

The games raised just over $2200 for The Lighthouse, a non-profit out of Sunnyside that advocates, educates and supports those affected by domestic violence and sexual assault.
